# 54 February 12, 2026. Children's mass

This morning we woke to sunshine and very comfortable temperatures. After breakfast with the sisters we all went to our assigned jobs. Winnie went to the Home Economics Room where they planned to bake a cake. The cake was made and was very delicious but the process had a lot of problem solving to make a finished product. They pre-heated the oven but it didn’t go past 200 so they turned it up to max. They put the cake into cook and to demonstrate how to tell if it is done Winnie looked for a pot holder, none to be seen, so she used cloths, one was wet so she had to drop the cake. Fortunately, it just landed down flat on the floor, right side up, with very little damage. It was returned to the oven and was ready in 1 hr and 30 minutes. Everyone enjoyed it.

Betty Jane spent the day working with Xavier and Paul. She says they are naturals. Two practice sessions and they can play along on the keyboard with her.

Charlotte spent time in the lab with Colleen and her student mentor team. They began with review of yesterday’s games and showed a great understanding of them. They moved on to the game ‘Go Fish’. This was a bit more complicated but they caught on very quickly and had a lot of fun. With a bit more practice they can teach others.

Today Sr Agnes distributed the dresses made by the Judique Crafters. The little girls loved their dresses and the slim young girls were so proud of their fancy tops. Very versatile dresses. All the girls wore their new dresses to church in the afternoon. We were invited to see the students read with much more ease using either magnifiers or reading glasses. They are valuable tools in their studies. The students enjoyed the children’s books and braille books donated from Nova Scotians and we saw them read them so eagerly. The toothbrushes were also a big hit, they immediately started brushing out by the outside tap.

At 4:00 there was a children’s mass in the hall. The children really get into the singing and put their heart and soul into it. They sing and dance so heartily, whether sighted or not. The tiny children dressed in their new dresses were some of the most animated. After mas they didn’t just walk out they danced and sang out.

John and John were busy with electrical and plumbing issues and making sure they check infrastructure to see where repairs are needed.

The genuineness of the sisters and enthusiasm and happiness of the children makes this trip so worthwhile.

We ended the evening with a games night with the sisters. Chinese checkers and Scrabble. The sisters are great sports.
