This morning mass was at 9:30, a special one since they were marking the investiture of a new parish priest by their Bishop Patrick. The service was in Bemba, their native language with a great deal of singing and talking. The service was over at 1:00!
We met the bishop after mass and later in the afternoon we went with him and Sr Agnes as she pointed out the improvements made by Inverness County Cares and Chalice. The bishop who was familiar with the condition of the school previously was most impressed with the developments made to the infrastructure and spaces for the children. Bishop is a jovial, humble man who genuinely cares about these special children. His companion Matthews Mumba, a Franciscan was also very much the same.
From there we met with a youth group, in front of the church to explain to them how Inverness County Cares operates. We had 30 minutes, so each member spoke on an aspect of our society for five minutes.
As we walk through the school grounds and surrounding areas we are struck by the abundant gardens and the lush vegetation surrounding each family home. There are vegetables in mostly every spot of arable land. Each family plot has a flock of chickens who roost in the trees overnight. The robust good health of the babies and children are a testament to their great diet.
