# 48 February 6, 2026 Kasisi 2

Early on the morning of January 5th, Sr. Marjory, Lewis, and James set off from Lusaka for Kawambwa in the Toyota Hilux. The journey is roughly the same distance as traveling from Judique to Montreal—so not a short drive. After a very long day on the road, they finally arrived in Kawambwa at 9:45 PM. They generously transported all twelve of our 50-lb suitcases, along with several extra items, helping to lighten our load ahead of our flight to Mansa on Saturday.
January 5th turned into a much-needed catch-up-on-sleep day, as we were completely exhausted. We are staying at the Kasisi Retreat Centre, run by the Little Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate. Sr. Kristine warmly welcomed us, showed us to our accommodations, and made sure we were settled in—at 3:00 AM! January 6th
The Kasisi Centre is truly a remarkable, multi-purpose place. It includes a convent, nursing home, novitiate, schools, vegetable gardens, a children’s home, chickens, fruit orchards, and an abundance of flowers—especially colourful, tall, zinnias everywhere you look. The centre is largely self-sustaining, providing food for everyone who lives there. Meals are delicious and served in the convent dining room. The entire convent is sparkling clean, and the sisters are always smiling and joyful. We enjoyed a tour of the avocado orchard with Sr. Edith and Tobias, both of whom are incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Alongside the avocados, the orchards also produce citrus fruits and mangos. The compound is alive with vegetable gardens and flowers and they raise chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, and pigs. Everything is run with impressive efficiency and organization.
At noon, we headed to the bank to withdraw some Zambian Kwacha. Later in the afternoon, however, some concern resurfaced when checking in for our flight—getting a boarding pass once again proved to be a challenge. It was settled successfully and we were able to get some spending money. Tomorrow, Saturday we fly to Mansa and will be met by the sisters and travel about three hours to Kawambwa.
